5. A postage stamp
Value: $8 700 000
It’s crazy, such a small piece of paper with so much value. British Guiana stamp of one cent is the only survivor of a series made in breakdown … 1856, in British Guiana: the settlers await a delivery of stamps which must arrive by boat. After weeks of delay and still not seeing anything coming, the postmaster asks the printers of the local newspaper to release a series of stamps to him in emergency. All stamps will be signed by hand to avoid possible counterfeiting. This one was found in 1873 in Guyana, by a small Scotsman of 12 years, in letters belonging to his uncle. As it was not referenced anywhere, he sold it for a few shillings only to a local collector. It’s too bad.
